Chartiers Valley High School Expands College Credit Opportunities

Chartiers Valley High School is excited to expand opportunities for students in the 2026–2027 school year. As part of the school's ongoing commitment to preparing students for success after graduation, these class additions provide students with more ways to earn college credit while exploring rigorous and career-relevant coursework.

Whether students are planning to attend a four-year university, pursue a specialized career pathway, or gain a competitive edge before graduation, these courses offer valuable opportunities to challenge themselves academically while reducing future college costs.

New Advanced Placement Course: AP Cybersecurity

The Computer Science Department is expanding its offerings with the addition of AP Cybersecurity. As cybersecurity continues to be one of the nation's fastest growing and most in-demand career fields, this course introduces students to the principles of digital security, network defense, ethical hacking, risk management, and emerging cyber threats. Students who successfully complete the course and earn a qualifying score on the AP Exam may receive college credit while gaining skills that are highly valued in today's technology driven workforce.

The Return of AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics

The Social Studies Department is pleased to welcome back AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics to their course offerings. These college level courses provide students with an in-depth understanding of economic principles that influence individual decision-making, businesses, financial markets, and the global economy.  Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit through successful performance on the College Board AP Exams while developing analytical and critical thinking skills that prepare them for majors in business, finance, economics, political science, and many other fields.

Accounting II Now Offers College in High School Credit

Students interested in business, accounting, finance, or entrepreneurship now have an additional pathway to earn college credit through Accounting II.  Beginning in 2026–2027, Accounting II will participate in the Robert Morris University College in High School program. Eligible students who meet program requirements may earn transferable college credit while completing the course at Chartiers Valley High School. This partnership allows students to begin building a college transcript before graduation while strengthening their understanding of financial accounting principles.

Expanded Options in AP Literature

The English Department is also expanding opportunities for students enrolled in AP Literature.  Beginning this school year, students may choose the traditional Advanced Placement pathway and pursue college credit by taking the College Board AP Exam, or they may elect to earn College in High School credit through the Mount Aloysius College College in High School Program. This flexibility allows students to select the pathway that best aligns with their postsecondary plans while engaging in the rigorous literary analysis, critical reading, and writing experiences that define the course.

These additions reflect Chartiers Valley High School's continued investment in providing students with meaningful academic opportunities that support college and career readiness. By expanding Advanced Placement offerings and strengthening partnerships with colleges and universities, the school is creating more pathways for students to graduate with college credits already earned, saving both time and tuition costs.
