This beloved ballet is the ultimate family holiday experience!

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) will present the beloved holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” Dec. 5–28 at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.
Set in turn-of-the-century Pittsburgh, PBT’s dazzling version was conceived and choreographed by the legendary Terrence S. Orr. It includes hundreds of colorful characters on an unforgettable adventure through sparkling snow into the dreamy Land of Enchantment.
“The Nutcracker” features five scenes, about 150 costumes, and more than 100 artists from the professional PBT company and PBT School along with celebrity guest star appearances.
Some notable features of this special experience include a tree that grows to 15 times its size, falling snow, epic sword fighting, and more than 30 professional magic tricks that add to the production’s enchantment.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will also provide a special sensory-friendly performance of “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 4:30 p.m. for children and adults with autism spectrum disorder, sensory sensitivities, and other individual needs.
There are many Nutcracker-themed PBT programs for children and families. Ballet Workshops for Scouts allow troops to participate in a pre-show ballet class. No dance experience is necessary for the fun, 45-minute beginners workshop. The Nutcracker Family Workshops help children appreciate and understand ballet before attending a performance. This event includes a Nutcracker storytime and crafts for children and families.
Sugar Plum Fairy Photos provide children with the special experience of meeting the Sugar Plum Fairy, with families invited to take pictures of the special moment.
Don’t miss “The Nutcracker” this holiday season—it will create a lasting memory for adults and children alike. There is nothing quite like the look of wonder on a child’s face when viewing this magical world where anything is possible!
