At just 11 years old, Peters Township Middle School 6th grader Ariana Pomykala is already making a name for herself in the competitive dance world. Her journey as a dancer began when she was 3 years old, and today she performs as a “Showdoll” with Dance by Cami in McMurray. Ariana’s dedication and talent have taken her to national stages, where she has earned numerous prestigious awards and titles.

Last July, Ariana traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the Dance Educators of America (DEA) National Dance Competition. The weeklong event was a whirlwind of activities, including a formal interview, proficiency classes in multiple dance genres, and the performance of her title solo—a lyrical piece titled “Try” by Colbie Caillat.

The competition concluded with Ariana earning the 2024 Junior Miss DEA title—an unforgettable moment she describes with pride and gratitude. “I worked so hard, mastering choreography outside of my comfort zone, and demonstrated loyalty and dedication well beyond my years all season,” she says.

But Ariana’s achievements didn’t stop there. During the same competition, she performed a stunning lyrical solo, “Winter,” which showcased her artistry and technique. This performance earned the prestigious Dance Educators of America Director’s Award for dancers 12 and under and secured her a 1st Place Overall finish.

Beyond her national success, Ariana has an impressive list of accolades including 2024-2025 Day of Design Dance Ambassador, Wild About Dance Competition 2024 Ambassador, Five-Time Regional Title Winner and Showstopper All-Stars Top Soloist 2024.

Her talents extend beyond dance as well. At school, Ariana was honored with the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence and has served as a Student Ambassador. She also participated in the Peters Township Youth Cheerleading Program, demonstrating her versatility and leadership.

Despite wonderful success, Ariana’s journey has had its challenges. “The most challenging part of my journey is learning new complex choreography, but it’s also the most rewarding part when I master it and build the confidence to walk on stage and give it 150 percent,” she explains.

Ariana’s love for dance has been a constant source of motivation, providing her with confidence, responsibility and a sense of teamwork.

“Dance has been part of my life since a very young age,” she says. “I love connecting with other dancers and experiencing new adventures with my family and dance family. The best part about traveling to competitions is meeting new dancers and fostering relationships with others I already know.”

Looking ahead, Ariana is focused on continuing to grow as a dancer: “My goals are to keep learning new techniques, improve flexibility and performance, and work outside of my comfort zone.”

In addition, she is preparing for the 2025 Dance Educators of America National Dance Competition in Florida. As the reigning Junior Miss DEA, she will have the honor of performing in the Opening Number, assisting the title director, presenting awards, delivering a send-off speech and crowning the next Junior Miss DEA.

Her anticipation of the upcoming season is unmistakable. “I am so excited to debut my new solos and kick off the 2025 dance competition season! Who will be the next Junior Miss DEA? I can’t wait to find out,” she says.

Ariana’s journey is a testament to hard work, passion and the unwavering support of her family and dance community. As she continues to shine on and off the stage, there’s no doubt she will continue to be a rising star.
